Frequently
Asked Questions
General
Q: How does Internet fax work?
A: Your long distance faxes use the Internet to reach their destination
instead of traditional telephone carriers. The destination's local phone
system is used for the termination call. Essentially you have sent your
fax at the price of a local call.
Q: How long does it take to deliver a fax using IP vs. delivering a fax
using PSTN?
A: The only difference between the two is that the IP fax will first be
delivered to Venali as an email. The document is rendered on our servers
and then sent out over our global IP network using a least cost routing
method. The entire process takes about two minutes when there are no retries
necessary.
Sending Faxes
Q: How do I send a fax message from my
ePhone Tools, Phone Tools Classic, Phone Tools Expert, WinFax Plus 7 or
BVRP Reseau software?
A: 1. Enter the recipient's destination fax number in the "To"
field. Use the international dialing format: <country code + area/city
code + fax number>. [Note: You always have to add the country code
(example: 1 for North America or 44 for United Kingdom) to the fax number
field in your Phonebook. To do this, select the correspondent and verify
that the fax number includes the country code (example: +1 303.450.1154,
+44 1752 894833.)]
You must always include the country code,
even when faxing within the same European country. Do not include the
(0) that follows the country code.
For example:
In the U.S. or Canada
The number 1 303.450.1154 is entered as
13034501154
In other countries
The number +44 (0) 1752 894833 is entered
as 441752894833
The number +33 (0) 1 41 27 19 71 is entered as 33141271971
The only exception is Italy where the (0) that follows
the country code is included.
The numbers from above would be entered as 4401753825464 or 330141271971.
2. Enter the subject and compose the body of your message.
3. Click Send. A confirmation notice will be delivered
to your inbox.
Q: Can I send a fax to multiple recipients?
A: Yes, just add fax addresses to the "Recipients List" as you would to your
ePhoneTools fax.
Q: How do I know my fax was delivered?
A: You will receive an email from Venali confirming the delivery status
of each fax.
Receiving Faxes
Q: How do I receive a fax message?
A: If you select "In-bound Service", Venali will issue a fax number
for you in the international dialing format: <country code + area/city
code + fax number> (for example: 33141271971)
Anyone who wants to send you a fax from their fax machine must include the
preceding 0 (local) or 00 (long distance) in front of the country code.
Do not include the (0) that follows the country code. It
is not necessary to enter the country code when sending from a fax machine
within the same European country. For example:
Within the United States, the format is: <1 + area/city code + fax
number>
The number 1 303.450.1154 is entered as 13034501154
From another country, the format is: <00 + country
code + area/city code + fax number>
The number +44 (0) 1752 894833 is entered
as 0441752894833
Q: In what format do my faxes arrive in
my email?
A: Faxes are received as TIFF or PDF files.
Q: I am unable to correctly open and view
the fax I received. How can I view my fax in TIFF file format?
A: When you open files in Windows 98, Windows
ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP, they are viewed in TIFF file format using
an Imaging program such as Wang (wangimg.exe) or Kodak Imaging program
(kodakimg.exe) that has been configured for this file extension. In some
cases, other multimedia programs have been installed to open TIFF files
that are not capable of reading this TIFF file format. To correctly view
your fax, you must associate the file extension to your correct viewing
program.

Q: Does my computer have to be turned on to receive faxes?
A: No. All messages are stored in your email, waiting for you to retrieve
them whenever
you want.
Q: I already have a fax number. Can I make this my fax to email number?
A: No. However, you can call-forward your existing fax number to your
new fax to email number. All faxes sent to your old fax number will then
be forwarded to your email. Many users also forward their old fax number
to their fax to email number when they travel, so they can receive all
their faxes simply by checking their email.
