press release
venali views j2 global's
claim of patent infringement as anti-competitive and baseless
MIAMI, FL. (February 24, 2004) - Venali, a leading provider
of Internet fax services for Enterprise and SOHO systems, said today it
will respond swiftly to announced legal action against the company by
j2 Global Communications, Inc, a California based provider of Internet
fax solutions for consumers and SOHO businesses.
Venali reports to be surprised about the announcement and can not comment
on the specifics of the lawsuit at
this time. While Venali awaits further details regarding the claims, it
has reviewed the patents and is confident that it has not infringed on
any j2 patent.
"Venali has successfully positioned itself as the leader in corporate
IP fax solutions with unique business features such as the Venali Junk
Fax Filter and the Venali Account Management Center," said Amin El-Gazzar,
CEO for
Venali. "Now that we have successfully penetrated the SOHO segment
through relationships with companies like Microsoft, including our integration
in Microsoft® Office 2003, we expect to face increasing pressure
from our competitors. Indeed, our competitors --particularly j2 Global
Communications -- have taken notice of our success. Unfortunately, patent
litigation, regardless of the merit of any particular patent infringement
allegation, has become a common tool for competitors to assert in the
pursuit of increased market share. While we understand
the business logic for asserting a meritless claim of patent infringement,
Venali still prefers to compete based
upon the merits of our services at the customer level."
Venali respects the intellectual property of other companies as it expects
other companies to respect the intellectual property of Venali.
